Businesses ask to play part in bold new economic strategy
LOCAL businesses and groups are being invited to play their part in shaping and delivering the bold 10-year plan that aims to transform the Ayrshire economy.
The delivery plan for the Ayrshire Regional Economic Strategy was launched at the Gailes Hotel earlier this month.
It kick-started another successful Ayrshire Business Week and gave the Working Group behind the Strategy a further chance to share their vision.
And now they are looking for businesses from across the region to sign up and get involved.
Community Wealth Building – the economic development model that puts local people and communities at the heart of decisions while redirecting wealth back into the local economy – is at the centre of the new economic approach.
And a key aim in the next ten years, is that ‘Ayrshire will be a region where wealth is shared fairly, to enable people of all ages to live full and healthy lives’.
Alastair Dobson, Chair of the Regional Strategy Working Group, chaired the event at the Gailes Hotel and said: “It was great to see so many local businesses at the Gailes Hotel to learn more about our new Strategy.
“We are moving in a new and exciting direction and key to our ambitions is partnership working and getting buy-in and support from our local business community.
“What we have here in Ayrshire is so wide and varied with so much skill and expertise. We need to utilise that.
“All partners have their part to play and successful proactive businesses will be the heart of sustainable inclusive economic recovery and growth.
“We are a passionate, proud, creative and hardworking region. We need to nurture and develop the team approach at a local and regional level. We are confident this Strategy can deliver significant and long-lasting economic renewal across our region.”
Alastair was joined at the event by a range of businesses and partners all with a shared vision for Ayrshire.
There were also presentations from Debbie Alexander, the CEO from CHAP – a charity that provides free, impartial advice to anyone in North Ayrshire dealing with benefits, housing, or debt issues – Britt Campbell, HR and Projects Manager at Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex and Stevie Brown, Head of Research and Technology (Prestwick) at Spirit AeroSystems.
The new Strategy focusses on six themes
• Support for Enterprise
• Fair Work
• Innovation
• Good Health and Wellbeing
• Stronger Places and Communities
• Enhancing Natural Capital
