The Ayrshire Growth Deal will see investment in South Ayrshire on an unprecedented scale, creating transformational change and making us a significant contributor to the UK and Scottish economies now and into the future.

The Growth Deal was signed in 2020 between the Scottish and UK Governments, and the three Ayrshire councils to transform Ayrshire’s economic prospects with Scotland’s first non-city Region Deal.

Through a £251.5 million investment, Ayrshire now has the opportunity to become a world-class business region for the aerospace and space, energy, marine, manufacturing and tourism industries.

This funding is centred on 19 projects across Ayrshire and is expected to unlock private investment of around £300 million, while delivering around 7,000 new jobs.

In South Ayrshire, £80 million of Growth Deal funding is being invested in an ambitious Aerospace and Space programme to position Prestwick – which is already home to Scotland’s largest aerospace cluster – as one of the leading centres for aerospace and space in the UK, as well as Europe’s leading space hub.

Projects include:

  • Prestwick Spaceport, one of only two horizontal spaceports in the UK
  • Aerospace and Space Technology Applications Centre (ASTAC)
  • Roads Infrastructure
  • Commercial Development
