Ayrshire has become one of only three 5G Innovation Regions (5GIR) in Scotland, as part of the £38 million Innovation Regions programme funded by the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

  • Through a collaboration with East and North Ayrshire Councils, University of the West of Scotland, Ayrshire College, National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and Vodafone, the Ayrshire 5GIR Project is exploring the potential of 5G for Ayrshire and how advanced wireless technologies can improve connectivity and boost productivity for businesses in the region.
  • There are three new innovation hubs in Ayrshire focused on 5G and future digital connectivity solutions, including the Digital Connectivity & Innovation Centre (DCIC) at University of the West of Scotland’s Ayr Campus.
