Spirit AeroSystems Investing in the Future, Opens Prestwick Despatch Centre

Spirit AeroSystems (Europe) Ltd. today celebrated further investment in the Prestwick site with the opening of a new despatch centre.

Spirit President and Chief Executive Officer, Tom Gentile and Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work, Keith Brown opened the centre, which was constructed to complement an existing hangar used to assemble wing structures for the Airbus A350XWB aircraft.

Employing approximately 1,000 people at the Prestwick site, Spirit assembles major wing structures for the Airbus family, including the A320, A380 and A350XWB aircraft and for the Boeing 767 aircraft.

“We are committed to continuous improvement at Spirit AeroSystems,” said Gentile. “This new despatch centre is an example of an efficiency improvement and is designed to give us extra capacity and the capability to meet our customers’ needs today and in the future.”

Cabinet Secretary Brown added, “I am pleased to open this new facility, which will allow for increased efficiency and competitiveness and offer world-class aerospace engineering facilities in South Ayrshire.
